100% Local-First

Local-First Privacy Policy

Effective Date: October 2026 • Published by The Geni Solutions

Our Core Privacy Commitment

GeniSteps was engineered from day one to operate with zero cloud servers. We believe that your biometric activity, step counts, heart rate recordings, and workout history belong to you, and should never leave your phone without your explicit command.

1. Data Storage & On-Device Processing

All information generated by your use of GeniSteps—including daily step totals, distance, active caloric burn, hydration logs, workout routines, and streak freezes—is stored in a local SQLite database directly on your device's file system.

  • We do not operate backend user databases.
  • We do not require you to create an account, log in with Google/Apple, or enter an email address.
  • Your data is never transmitted to our servers or third-party cloud data brokers.

2. Device Sensors & Health Integrations

GeniSteps requests access to your smartphone's motion sensors:

  • Apple CoreMotion (iOS): Used solely to capture hardware-calculated cadence and step counts.
  • Android Step Sensor & Health Foreground Service: Used solely to accumulate daily strides in low-power hardware hubs.
  • Apple Health / Android Health Connect (Optional): If enabled by you, GeniSteps only reads or writes data to synchronize your local database with your device's built-in health repository.

3. Advertising & Telemetry

GeniSteps contains zero third-party advertising SDKs and zero tracking pixels. We do not profile your behavior, sell advertising impressions, or track your physical movements.

4. Data Export & Portability

You retain complete sovereignty over your data. At any time, you can export your entire database into standard CSV or JSON formats using the 1-tap export tools in Settings. The exported files are shared directly through your operating system's native share sheet.

5. GDPR, CCPA & Global Privacy Rights

Under modern privacy frameworks including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), users possess rights to data access, rectification, portability, and deletion. Because GeniSteps operates on a 100% local-first paradigm:

  • Right to Access & Portability: You can access and export 100% of your historical records at any time via the 1-Tap JSON and CSV export buttons in Settings.
  • Right to Erasure (Right to be Forgotten): You have total sovereignty. Deleting the GeniSteps app from your device or clearing app storage immediately and irreversibly deletes the entire local SQLite database. No orphaned backups or cloud shadow copies exist.
  • No Sale of Personal Data: We never sell, rent, disclose, or trade your personal or biometric information to third parties.

6. Children's Privacy (COPPA)

GeniSteps does not knowingly collect, transmit, or solicit personal information from children under the age of 13 (or under 16 in the European Economic Area). Because the application requires no account registration, email submission, or cloud communication, all activity data remains strictly on the child's local device hardware.

7. Health & Biometric Data Protections

We recognize the sensitive nature of physical biometric indicators (step strides, walking cadence, heart rate syncs, and sleep records). GeniSteps guarantees:

  • No user biometrics are ever uploaded to cloud servers or remote data warehouses.
  • No telemetry is collected to train machine learning models or artificial intelligence algorithms on external servers.
  • All biometric derivations (cadence zones, estimated calorie burn, ahead-of-pace status) occur on-device in native device silicon.

8. Policy Updates & Changes

We may periodically update this Local-First Privacy Policy to reflect application updates or regulatory standards. If changes occur, the "Effective Date" at the top of this policy will be revised.
